Looking for a specific item?
Call any one of our locations, and our helpful employees will be happy to look for your book. Leave your name and number with them (if you don't want to listen to our hold music) and they'll call you back, take your shipping and billing information over the phone and send you your book.
Product Pricing Policy
We strive to be a company that lives up to our name. With the exception of rare collectibles, out-of-print merchandise or specially priced promotional items, all of our books are sold for half the publisher's price or less. The vast majority of the books and other items we sell are priced at half the current list price or less, but a few are not. These include specially priced promotional items, collectibles, and rare, out-of-print materials. For more information, we invite you to read our complete Pricing Policy.
Discounts
We love teachers and librarians. So, we offer a 10% discount to public, private and home-school teachers as well as school and city librarians. All you have to do to receive the discount is go to any one of our Neighborhood Locations and present some sort of identification that verifies you're an educator (i.e. pay stub, id card/badge). One of our friendly employees will then give you a 10% discount card good for one year at all of our stores.
In addition to educators, all customers who sign up for the Half Price Books mailing list will be subscribed to receive occasional discount offers and coupons in the mail or via e-mail. Among the benefits of being a subscriber is receiving money-saving coupons and information about sales and other special events. Click here to sign up for the Half Price Books eNews mailing list program.
Customer information is collected and stored for our use only. We do not share that information with anyone. We're selfish that way. And we value your trust and honor our privacy policy. If you're already on our mailing list and feel that you have not been receiving any communications from us, please make sure your information is up-to-date. Also, keep in mind that you may only receive a minimum of two coupon offers annually.

Our motto has remained the same since we opened in 1972 we buy and sell "anything printed or recorded, except yesterday's newspaper." So bring in your used books, music, movies, magazines, records and games and one of our specially trained buyers will make you an offer.
All of our locations buy all types of printed and recorded merchandise, all day every day. Just bring what you'd like to sell to a store near you and we'll make a cash offer while you wait. And our offers are for everything you bring in, not selected items so you don't have to lug anything back home! Determining the value of books and music isn't an exact science, but there are primary factors we always consider when buying used merchandise of any kind: condition, and supply and demand. We pay the most for recent best sellers and collectibles, but we're also interested in good books, music, and movies of all kinds. Explore our site more and learn more about selling to Half Price Books.
By law, we must ask to see a driver's license and get a signature when you bring books in to sell in order to verify that our customers don't knowingly engage in the trade of stolen merchandise for resale. Thanks for your cooperation.
Whenever possible, we strive to donate overstock inventory to nonprofit agencies around the world. You may bring your merchandise to sell or donate to any of our Neighborhood Locations. If you have any questions about merchandise you want to sell, email Steve Leach, the Buy Guy.

Shopping Safely & Securely
Every order you make on our website is safe. We use strict security precautions to make our website safe, including the use of a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) server. Any information you enter while you're using the secure server is encrypted before being transmitted, so it is virtually impossible for an outside party to access or intercept your information. Your shopping experience is safe with us.
During your visit to the HPB online store, you may verify that you are on a secure page by clicking the Thawte logo at the bottom left-hand corner of the page. This certificate authenticates our SSL domain and verifies its current valid status. In the event of unauthorized use of your credit card on our website, you must notify your credit card provider in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
Authenticating Emails
All emails sent to Half Price Books mailing list subscribers are delivered through Chron Data, an authorized third-party on behalf of Half Price Books. Sometimes these email communications include links to offers, such as coupons or special promotions or contests. These links will appear as a URL other than halfpricebooks.com; authentic emails and links from Half Price Books will come from Chron Data servers and quickly redirect you to the page on halfpricebooks.com or halfpricebooksonline.com appropriately. If you ever feel you've received a spoof or "phishing" email regarding Half Price Books, please forward it to customercare@halfpricebooks.com, with long headers included.
What is a spoof email?
A spoof email is simply an email that pretends to be from an organization which asks you to log-in to your account and update your details. It usually asks this on the pretense that requires action on your part, and contains a link for you to click on and log-in to your account. The emails will often look authentic. After you enter your details, the message may even say that you've successfully updated your account. But what has actually happened is that you've provided your account details to a thief, and they can then use that to immediately log into your real account and steal your money, make purchases on your behalf, or perform any additional procedures your account allows.
Tips to Avoid Spoofing & Phishing
To help you avoid spoof emails, please keep in mind the following: Look for the "from" address on emails you receive; they should originate from either Half Price Books or Chron Data. Half Price Books will never ask for your personal financial information, such as social security or bank account numbers. The only instance where you may provide Half Price Books with financial information is when purchasing at halfpricebooksonline.com. Please see also, Shopping Safely & Securely. Never log-in to to your account if you do not see halfpricebooks.com or halfpricebooksonline.com as the primary URL in your web browser. False log-ins are deceptive, so make sure you verify where you are before you log-in to any account.
Accounts at Half Price Books
The Half Price Books website allows you to have up to 2 separate accounts: 1) your Subscriber Account, which allows you to update your profile to remain on our mailing list for coupons and sale notices, etc. and 2) your Shopper Account, which allows you to make Gift Card purchases at the Half Price Books online store.

About Half Price Books
In 1972, we opened our first store in a converted laundromat in Dallas, Texas. Co-founders Ken Gjemre and Pat Anderson stocked the store with more than 2,000 books from their personal libraries. Half Price Books was created with the idea of offering a great product at a great price. And it worked! Today, Half Price Books is America's favorite new and used bookstore chain. Our simple philosophy continues under the leadership of Sharon Anderson Wright, daughter of Pat Anderson. The company expanded from a single 1,000 square foot converted laundromat into the nation's largest family-owned and used bookstore chain. More than 1,700 employees currently generate annual revenues exceeding $140 million, making Half Price Books in the Top 200 of the nation's Top 500 Women-Owned Businesses. Today, it remains a family-owned and operated business. The company's retail and wholesale division now occupy more than 955,000 square feet, housing more than 10 million new and used books.

Environmental Philosophy
A healthy environment, locally and globally, is vital to our business. We view protection of the environment as a journey, not a destination. We began that journey more than 30 years ago and it continues today. Each employee of Half Price Books and its subsidiaries has responsibility for stewardship of our natural resources and must strive to conduct business in ways that protect and preserve the environment. Our employees, business partners, suppliers and consumers must all work together to continuously find innovative ways to foster the efficient use of natural resources, prevention of waste and sound management of water. Doing so not only benefits the environment, it makes good business sense.
Community Giving
Half Price Books is committed to the giving back to the community. To help teachers and librarians stretch their dollar even further, we offer a 10% Discount Card, good at all Half Price Books locations. We've been supporting literacy for more than 30 years by working with local literacy groups across the country. Half Price Books strives to help provide people of all ages with the tools and skills necessary to become readers. And through the Half Pint Library program, thousands of books are collected and donated to hospitals each year. Writers have had the opportunity to enter original stories in our Bedtime Storybook Contests. Proceeds from their published works, the Say Good Night to Illiteracy collection, go to family literacy projects. Read more below about some of our specific projects.
Literacy Partners
Half Price Books works together with its patrons to support local and national literacy organizations. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to read. Click here for our list of literacy partners. We encourage our employees and customers to become literacy volunteers through our A, E, I, O & YOU Program. Half Price Books offers a free video featuring literacy volunteers and students. This video is available to any nonprofit organization that wishes to promote literacy volunteerism. To obtain this literacy video, please email your request to Mark Wren, Community Relations Manager.
Half Pint Library
At Half Price Books, we believe in the nurturing power of reading. That's why we began the Half Pint Library program in 1999. Thanks to your help, we have provided more than 1.5 million books and created over 75 Half Pint Libraries in hospitals, community centers and special needs schools across the nation. From January through March, donate new or gently used children's books at any Half Price Books location. A good story can brighten the day of young patients and their families' kids who have to brave hospitals and surgeries and their parents who feel relief just by seeing a smile on their child's face again. Please help us share the love of reading with deserving children. Share a happy ending with someone who needs it. Learn more about the Half Pint Library program and how you can get involved.
Say Good Night to Illiteracy
Half Price Books has been supporting literacy since its founding in 1972. In 1994, we sponsored our first Bedtime Storybook Contest, open to amateur writers of all ages. Each year, the Bedtime Storybook contest is greeted with great enthusiasm. The contest focuses on stories and poems geared for children ages eight and under. Entries are judged on quality and originality, and the 20 stories are published in our annual bedtime storybook, Say Good Night to Illiteracy. Say Good Night to Illiteracy is much more than just a children's bedtime storybook. Proceeds from the sale of the book are donated to Reach Out and Read, a national literacy organization. The Retail Advertising and Marketing Association honored Half Price Books with the Peter Glen Award for the Say Good Night to Illiteracy project. It was recognized as a public service that has fostered dreams and creativity of hundreds of writers for more than 10 years, raising awareness and funds for the cause of literacy.
DeleteCensorship.org
In conjunction with Banned Books Awareness Week 2006, Half Price Books launched DeleteCensorship.org. Half Price Books developed the Delete Censorship website, which is designed to celebrate U.S. First Amendment rights, as well as draw attention to existing censorship issues. It exists to celebrate literature of all kinds and to continue to ensure that ideas remain accessible to all who want them. Half Price Books supports the imaginative and courageous authors of all books, including those that open our eyes to controversial topics. Click here to visit the Delete Censorship website.
The Texas Bookman
In 1983, Half Price Books established its wholesale division, The Texas Bookman to sell remainders. The Texas Bookman took its name from an antiquarian bookstore bought out by Half Price Books. The Texas Bookman also reprints books under the name Hackberry Press. The Texas Bookman offers trade and scholarly remainders in the visual and performing arts, literary studies, fiction, history, children's, crafts, science, reference and nature. The Texas Bookman also offers quality modern fiction, out-of-print, first edition books, cookbooks, art, antiques, and collectibles. In October 2006, the wholesale division launched its own website at TexasBookman.com to offer its complete inventory 24/7 to its worldwide customers.
