Half Price Books has been supporting literacy since its founding in 1972. In 1994, we sponsored our first Bedtime Storybook Contest, open to amateur writers of all ages. The contest focuses on stories and poems geared for children ages eight and under. Entries were judged on quality and originality, and the 20 stories were published in our bedtime storybook, Say Good Night to Illiteracy.
Say Good Night to Illiteracy is much more than just a children's bedtime storybook. Proceeds from the sale of the book are donated to the National Center for Family Literacy. Reading can greatly impact a child's life. Parents and educators need informative and entertaining reading materials for young children. At Half Price Books, we delight in being a part of children's learning and growth, as we instill the love of reading in each child. It is a privilege for us to work with talented writers and illustrators each year. We encourage writers to follow their dreams, and we celebrate their continued success with them. Through the years, we received entries from some of the most talented writers in the country and raised thousands of dollars for literacy efforts. We are proud to release the 13th edition with new writers and colorful illustrations. Show your support for the Say Good Night to Illiteracy project by picking up a copy of Say Good Night to Illiteracy at your neighborhood Half Price Books. We appreciate our customers' continued support of this literacy program and would like to thank the writers, illustrators and judges for their time and dedication. The Retail Advertising and Marketing Association honored Half Price Books with the Peter Glen Award for the Say Good Night to Illiteracy project. It was recognized as a public service that has fostered dreams and creativity of hundreds of writers for more than 10 years, raising awareness and funds for the cause of literacy. |
